​Joined by manufacturers, energy advisers and technical experts who will all provide practical advice and insight into building high performance homes, this one-day only seminar is an excellent opportunity for builders to connect with, and learn from, the builders and industry experts who participated in this study.

Understanding the best building approaches to achieve your energy efficiency target, while managing the bottom line, is essential when building to performance. The Local Energy Efficiency Partnerships (LEEP) Innovation Exchange, presented by NRCan, in partnership with BC Housing, FortisBC and BC Hydro will cover:

    Bob started building homes in 1993. Bob has a passion for innovation in housing technology, and this has lead to his current involvement in the Canadian Home Builders Association as Chair of the National Technical Research Committee and Vice Chair role for the Net Zero Housing Council. In his spare time, Bob enjoys participating in a variety of sports.

  • Arthur Lo, MSc (Eng.) Owner and Founder, Insightful Healthy Homes Inc.

    Arthur Lo is an award-winning builder and chartered engineer with over 20 years of experience building high-performance homes. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong and worked for the Hong Kong government on infrastructure projects, including the Hong Kong International Airport.

    Arthur is a member of the Management Committee for the Net Zero Energy Housing Council, CHBA. He also served as a member of the International Training Team for CMHC, as well as delivers lectures and seminars to industry professionals.

    In 2012, Arthur was named one of the “Top 20 Most Influential People in Residential Construction” by BC Homes Magazine.

    Jonathan Zerkee, President of Sonbuilt Custom Homes Ltd, started the company in 1995. As a BCIT graduate, Jonathan  grew the company in the 1990’s by gaining many levels of experience through various positions of site supervisor and project manager for major construction firms throughout the Lower Mainland. Through his work with Sonbuilt, Jonathan has gained a wide variety of experience in commercial and residential renovation and new construction. He became qualified as a Registered Housing Professional, Registered Renovation Professional, and certified in both R-2000 and ENERGY STAR construction. He has taken extensive training both in home design and building science. His desire is to stay current and ahead of his peers in the construction industry while building healthy energy efficient homes is a passion he has held since the beginning.

    In 2012, Jonathan Zerkee was elected to be President of the Canadian Home Builder’s Association of the Fraser Valley. In 2014 Jonathan was accepted as a founding member of the Net Zero Energy Housing Council at the national level of the Canadian Home Builders Association.   • Einar Halbig, B.A.Sc., CEA, Principal, E3 Eco Group

    Einar Halbig has over 16 years of education and experience in residential construction.  He specializes in practical solutions that make a house more efficient, safe and comfortable.  Trained as a civil engineer, he has evaluated over 2000 existing homes across the Lower Mainland as well as hundreds of new homes.  Einar embarked on a deep-green energy retrofit of his own house and now enjoys the many benefits of the end result.  He brings an engineering background, technical sales expertise, and hands-on experience to the field of energy-efficiency and sustainable consulting. Einar provides Building Science for New Homes training and Certified Energy Advisor training, and he serves as the Chair of the CHBA BC Technical Advisory Committee.

  • Graham Finch, RDH Building Science Inc., Principal, Senior Building Science Research Specialist Dipl.T., M.A.Sc., P.Eng.

    Graham Finch is a building science engineer who specializes in research and investigation work and leads RDH’s research group. His work experience includes a wide range of projects including building enclosure condition assessments, forensic investigations, research studies, energy assessments, building monitoring programs, field review, and testing services for new and existing buildings across North America. He has also worked with numerous building product manufacturers on product research and development, performance monitoring, and field testing.

    Graham has authored several publications and practical industry guideline documents related to durable and energy efficient building enclosures, several of which can be found on our website. Graham is also a part-time instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology where he teaches building science courses at the Diploma and Masters levels.

  • Rob Pope, Senior Consultant, Ecolighten energy Solutions

    Rob started working in the HVAC industry in the mid 1970`s where he began his apprenticeship in high-end custom homes, quickly earning tickets in sheet metal, refrigeration and gas fitting. During this time, he installed, serviced and began designing the first wave of energy-efficient systems such as condensing gas furnaces and boilers, heat recovery ventilation, heat pumps and solar thermal.

    Rob was the Mechanical Consultant on the first residence in Canada to achieve a Canadian LEED® certification and as an active member of the industry he has served as an executive member of the HVCI and TECA industry associations, advocating for higher standards and better education for its members.
