Learn about changes in Part 9 of the BC Building Code that will come into force at the end of 2018. These changes will include new provisions for stairs, guards, sound transmission and seismic requirements, accessibility, energy and water efficiency standards, and other design elements.

This session will explore a variety of approaches to comply for each of the coming changes. The focus will be on the requirements that apply to single family and low-rise residential buildings.

The seminar was developed in collaboration with the Building and Safety Standards Branch, CHBA-BC, BOABC, EGBC, ASTTBC, AIBC, and new home warranty providers.

Richard Kadulski

Richard Kadulski Architect

Richard is a Vancouver-based architect who specializes in healthy, energy-efficient, solar, and climate-sensitive residential design. He is a current member of the National Research Council of Canada Standing Committee on Housing and Small Buildings (Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada). Richard provides training to the building industry and general public, and is also the editor of SOLPLAN REVIEW, Canada’s journal of energy conservation, building science, and building practice.

James Higgins

James Higgins, AScT, works across several groups at RDH, from research and investigation with Building Science Labs, to building enclosure design and construction field review in New Buildings. His work includes forensic investigations, building monitoring, thermal modeling, field review and testing services, and building enclosure design. James helped produce several of our Illustrated Guides for Part 9 buildings in B.C.
