BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment offers a wide range of programs related to the natural environment, the built environment and the relationship between them. Our students are provided with the knowledge and skills required to address the issues of today and the future in Engineering, Applied and Natural Sciences, Trades and Apprenticeship and more.

We offer various credentials including certificates, diplomas, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees that lead to successful careers as skilled tradespersons, technicians, technologists, professional engineers, and managers.

NightShift Street Ministries

HAVAN Supports the Nightshift Street Ministries

If you’re in the business of building homes, you already know how your work impacts the lives of people who retreat to those warm, cherished places every day.

At NightShift, we reach out to vulnerable men and women in our neighbourhood who often don’t have a place to call “home”. To some degree, each of us knows someone who is troubled by poverty, addictions, mental illness or even homelessness. Not everyone affected by poverty ends up on the streets, but the in-between stage of couch surfing with friends, or staying the night at a public shelter, is often just a stepping stone to street life.

Our trained volunteers offer hot meals, clean clothing, basic nursing and counselling. We welcome support from the business community to help us build relationships and provide the community so many yearn for.

The Home Builders’ Care program, launched in partnership with HAVAN, is an initiative to bring together socially responsible businesses like yours.

EASTER SEALS HOUSE

HAVAN Supports the Ester Seals House

The Easter Seals House offers a home away from home, for families with sick children who require specialized medical treatments. A basic hotel room is often not an affordable option during their stays. The House is open 365 days a year and as a result, experiences a lot of wear-and-tear. Each year the house provides 30,000 beds to families in need. Without subsidy from the government, Easter Seals House relies on the generous support of organizations like HAVAN and its members to help offset the operational and maintenance costs associated with this facility.

The 3rd Floor lounge is a space where families can go after a long, challenging and stressful day at the hospital. It is a common area for families to connect, offer comfort and support one another. Sponsored by the HAVAN Renovation and Suppliers’ Councils, the room was fully renovated and reopened in the fall of 2018! Costing approximately $82,500; which included materials, permits, trades and renovation work, thank you to all who supported this great initiative. View pictures here.

THE LOWER MAINLAND CHRISTMAS BUREAU

HAVAN Supports the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau

The Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau (LMCB) was established in 1930 to coordinate Christmas Services, and our role has never really changed, just the size and complexity. In our ever evolving role, we directly support a number of local Christmas Bureaus and agencies with new toys for children, new and gently used clothing for the family.

In our Vancouver Role, we provide over 1000 families with Direct assistance including food gift cards, new toys, clothing and gently used jackets. Our entire Clothing program has grown with HAVAN’s Coats for Kids, a program that has expanded from a few bags of clothing to thousands of items.

Each year HAVAN members provide drop off locations across Metro Vancouver for donations of warm winter clothing via the ‘Coats for Kids‘ campaign.
